Pre/ Post-Party Recovery

Okay, now let's get into some fun stuff. A pivotal right of passage in college is the freedom and excitement filled night of partying. I know most of you all have partied and I know that I have partied way too much in my early years at QU. They always warn you about the dangers of drinking but they never really talked about how horrible the hangovers are. I've reached that point in my early adulthood where it only takes one night of stupid drinking for me to need an entire day off from the world. But these hangovers can be heavily reduced and can even be nonexistent if you keep them in mind before your first shot.

Pre-Party

This first part should be something that you are incorporating into your life on the daily and that is to stay hydrated. Depending on your weight and the amount you exercise, you should be drinking upwards of six 21 ounce glasses of water a day- or at least that's the minimum that I have to be drinking. Before a night out, always up your water intake since alcohol dehydrates your body. Also it wouldn't hurt to have that extra H2O to help flush out your liver. Start by drinking a tall glass of water  first thing in the morning to encourage more drinking throughout the day.

Second, make sure never to drink on an empty stomach. Always, always, always have food before going out to ensure you're not puking by the end of the night. Yes, drinking on an empty stomach can lead your body to absorb the alcohol quicker, but it also is responsible for the nausea, headaches and vomiting the next day. I recommend eating foods with carbs. To add a little health to this, I suggest having a nice bowl brown rice pasta or to have avocado toast on some brown rice cakes. Brown rice is a healthier carb than a white or wheat bread and can even provide some protein so that you're not overly snacks when you come home.

When choosing what to drink while keep a health conscious eye out for options, stick with one kind of alcohol which can prevent hangover effects the next day. For mixing, ditch anything artificial or processed as the sugar will be responsible for those absolutely killer migraines in the morning. I recommend seltzer waters or zero calorie flavors meant for water like Crystal Light or Mio. If you want to choose a soda, I suggest ginger-ale as a great first contender so that the ginger could help settle an upset stomach.

Post-Party

Upon arrival and I mean immediately upon arrival, please wash your face. Please. Every time you sleep with makeup on it takes 30 days off of your skin's life cycle. You skin literally ages an entire month after one night's sleep. So please just take a makeup wipe and remove your makeup and if you're capable get some cleanser and moisturizer on and then you can go about your business as you drunkenly please.

In reference to a previous step, make sure to add some water into your liquids when you return home. Having just a few glasses can improve how you feel right away and will definitely aid in the morning to come. I recommend filling a large water bottle and placing it on your bedside so you have easy access to it- especially if you wake up in the middle of the night and feel your mouth cracking because it's so dry.

Similar to the pre-party step, definitely have something to eat when you get home if you aren't feeling your best. Get some popcorn or have some peanut butter toast to help give your body things to absorb all the alcohol and that are tasty enough that Domino's won't have to make a home delivery.

If these steps still leave you with a torturous hangover, take a recommended dose of Excedrin or Ibuprofen to helps with the aches and pains and a nice long day of laying in bed, re-watching "Stranger Things". - Char
